Schafer Fisheries Inc. is the Midwest's largest processor and wholesale/retail distributor of fresh fish and frozen seafood, located in North Western Illinois. The new facility is located in Thomson, Illinois.

A family owned business since 1955, owned and operated by Michael and Linda Schafer since 1976. The Schafers purchase and process fresh fish taken from fresh water rivers in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, as well as small and large lakes located in the Midwest States, the Great Lakes, and Canada. These fish are caught by commercial licensed fishermen in and around a 1000 mile radius, as well as fish caught by ourselves each day. The company is open 7 days a week with two locations. The original market is located on Rte. 84 just 3 miles north of Fulton, Il. In June of 2004, the new processing facility was opened. It is located in Thomson, Il. The new facility has opened us up to an additional 30,000 sq. ft. of production

Our distribution reaches from Los Angeles, California to New York City and many destinations in between. Schafer has expanded it's trucks to delivering twice a week, staggering them to insure the best quality and freshness possible. The fleet is owned and operated by Schafers, allowing us to control the deliveries.

In 2002, Schafers started processing their by-products creating a liquid fish fertilizer. The product is currently being produced on a daily basis. We now have 150,000 gallon capacity, with customers purchasing on an on going basis. Schafer's Organic Fish Fertilizer; ( SSF Organics ) meets N O P requirements, and is OMRI approved. This qualifies the product for any certified organic operation that requires fertilizer. From corn, soybeans, and potatoes to vineyards, it's an excellent product. It has virtually eliminated the need for landfill use.

The Company continues to grow. It has now expanded it’s horizons into the export markets as well. The expansion of a 3 ton an hour freezer tunnel to I Q F any product we produce has opened numerous doors for us. Minced product and all of our fine quality smoked products have also been increasing in popularity.
